José Neves Foundation and OutSystems join in knowledge society

OutSystems, a leader in the market for platforms for rapid application development, is responsible for creating the José Neves Foundation platforms, which allowed the integration of the various stakeholders in the organization and the provision of relevant information on skills, qualification data and employability.

With the mission of transforming Portugal into a knowledge society, Fundação José Neves partnered with OutSystems to develop ISA FJN and Brighter Future applications. These platforms allow all Portuguese interested in reskill or upskill their skills to apply for the Foundation’s reimbursable scholarships. It also allows them to make decisions for their academic and professional future based on relevant data and information on Employment, Skills, and Education in Portugal.

‘The partnership with OutSystems has enabled us to solve many of the challenges that lie ahead. We reduced the development effort thanks to faster reuse and visual design and were able to focus our efforts on the user experience and resources, rather than the challenges of coding.

The platform provided the scalability and security needed for two strongly citizen-oriented applications. User feedback has been very positive and demand is high’, says Carlos Oliveira, Executive President of Fundação José Neves.

Askblue was the partner of OutSystems selected to support the development of the ISA FJN application, with the support of four programmers who joined the project team. In three months, the team delivered the education partner portal for the ISA FJN application, which allowed universities and other educational institutions to register their institutions and their courses in the system.

At the same time, it allowed the FJN to validate and approve the institutions and courses that corresponded to its future-oriented criteria. In the next three months, the team was also able to deliver the candidate’s application experience, including KYC identity verification, to eliminate the risk of fraud.

The two platforms allow Fundação José Neves to have a fully digital integration process for educational institutions and ISA candidates. The system also provides secure management of accounts, payments and collection of scholarships, integrated into the FJN bank.

Near the completion date of the ISA FJN application, the José Neves Foundation began to develop the second Brighter Future application, an innovative information portal that covers Employment, Training and Skills in Portugal. In this project, FJN aimed to create an ‘elegant’ user experience to help users explore and obtain information from two sources: Microsoft’s BI platform and ‘Contentful’ content management system.

With a significant impact on the educational environment of our country, the two FJN programs had a high demand since their public launch, with ‘Brighter Future’ adding 400 simultaneous users, adding up to about 7000 pageviews; a number that has been increasing over time. In turn, the ISA application helped process around 400 applications for ISA FJN reimbursable grants in the first month and a half. Successful candidates are now benefiting from courses and training through the FJN ISA.
