Fusion reactor that imitates the Sun is being created with the participation of ISQ

It is called ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) and is the biggest scientific investment of today. This reactor that “imitates the Sun” will, when finished, have the capacity to produce 500 MW, enough to light 325 thousand homes.

The joint project of the USA, Japan, Russia, South Korea, China, India, and the European Union has the participation of the Institute of Welding and Quality (ISQ) and represents an investment of 20 billion euros.

ITER has is the first experimental nuclear fusion reactor, of the Tokamak type, capable of generating a positive energy return and demonstrating the scientific and technical feasibility of nuclear fusion as a clean energy source.

The national company will have a role linked to training, inspection, testing, development of non-destructive control technology, engineering of connection processes, and support services to basic engineering. ISQ’s contracts with ITER are worth 22 million euros, accumulated since 2007, the year in which the project began to be designed.
