It’s such an old time that we haven’t found it yet.

Letting go of the body in motion in the un-silenced pleasure and in the freedom is still a struggle. There is a rhythm in all changes and what vibrates is what we feel in flavour and what precedes understanding. The voice is only one, but no one knows that anymore, it has been forgotten. It leaves in an endless call, it arrives without arriving, since a time that has yet to be. However, we do not wait for what has always been here.

Piny was born in Lisbon, in 1981, and has Portuguese and Angolan ancestry. In 2007, she completed a degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon and, in 2009, a postgraduate degree in Scenography. That same year, she completed training in Scenography, Dance and Architecture in Paris, at the École National d’ Architecture and at the Center National de la Danse. She worked for four years as an architect and wrote her final degree thesis on Housing Typologies in Alto da Cova da Moura, after field research for one year. In 2012, she finished her degree in Dance at Escola Superior de Dança.

The path in dance began in 1999, where he began his studies in dances from the Middle East and North Africa, and, since 2006, he has been working in parallel with his path of learning, researching and teaching North American urban dances (breakdance, hip hop , house, vogue, waacking) and fusion of these languages. This study has been carried out all over the world (Europe, America, Asia and Africa), formally and informally.

In 2012, she started the dance project Orchidaceae, a female collective for research and fusion of urban, Middle Eastern and contemporary languages, having presented, since 2014, her work at various festivals in Europe, South, Central and North America and also in several countries in Asia and Africa. She has been teaching nationally and internationally since 2007 and organizes fusion dance festivals, battles and debates on urban dances, the political and social context of dance, orientalism and cultural appropriation/appreciation.

As an interpreter, she collaborated with Kwenda Lima, Alice Joana Gonçalves, Filipa Francisco, Tiago Guedes, Victor Hugo Pontes, Ricardo Ambrózio, Tânia Carvalho, Raquel Castro, Cristina Planas Leitão and Marco da Silva Ferreira, with whom she has worked since 2011.

In her own name, alongside the work developed in urban dances and fusions, she highlights the shows Corpo (i) lógica (Creadores Emergentes in 2011); Peripheral (in collaboration with Vhils for BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts); Sacred Geometry – the meditative State (for LOOP – Festival de Danças Urbanas); and HIP. a pussy point of view, premiered at the DDD Festival (Porto) and presented at the CCB in 2020.
