Gala dedicated to Giacomo Puccini at Promenade Concerts
Sunday, April 13, at 11 am at the Coliseu Porto Ageas
On the Sunday before Easter, April 13th, at 11 am, the Coliseu Porto Ageas invites families to a “Puccini Gala”, part of the Promenade Concerts cycle.
The Symphony Orchestra of the Porto Music Conservatory marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), in a lyrical gala that includes eternal works such as “Tosca”, “Gianni Schicchi”, “Madama Butterfly”, “La Bohème”, “Turandot”, among others.
Giacomo Puccini was one of the most important opera composers in history, standing out for his ability to create dramatic environments characterized by emotional realism, through sophisticated orchestration. In this commented concert, we will tell, for example, how his work marked the transition from the operatic tradition of the 19th to the 20th century, influencing modern opera and consolidating him as one of the greatest composers of the genre.
With Musical Direction by Maestro Fernando Marinho, “Gala Puccini” also features the voices of soprano Leonor Pais and tenor Sérgio Sousa Martins. Comments by musicologist Jorge Castro Ribeiro and multimedia design by Sara Botelho help children and adults learn all the interesting facts about the work, the composer and his era, in an initiative that aims to demystify classical music.
A fun experience for families and children who, once a month, can discover the secrets and curiosities of an eclectic repertoire of concerts and commented shows, with the participation of various orchestras and special guests.
“Promenade Concerts – Gala Puccini” starts at 11 am and tickets cost between €12 and €14, with 20% discounts for students, Coliseu Friends and family (+ 3 members), over 65s and Porto card holders.
Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
