Porto Municipal Gallery launches “Post-Nostalgic Knowings” publication

The publication “Post-Nostalgic Knowings” results from the course of reflection on contemporary art of the same name, carried out within the scope of the second edition of the municipal program Colectivos Pláka, and is now available for purchase at the Municipal Gallery of Porto.

Edited by Inês Moreira – architect, curator and researcher, whose curatorial and research work is dedicated to ruined architecture, collective memories, marginalized historical buildings and other artificial territories – the book brings together different contributions, reflections and ideas raised during the course, in 2019, under the tutelage of Inês Moreira and Aneta Szyłak – curator, art theorist, writer and responsible for the creation of NOMUS – New Art Museum in Gdansk, Poland.

The “Post-Nostalgic Knowings” course brought together about a dozen speakers and two dozen participants who, through conferences, masterclasses and workshops, focused on different “post-nostalgic” views and perspectives. Using as an example several spaces of European cities and, in the case of Porto, focusing on the Freixo hillside – characterized by its extensive industrial history – the participants reflected on how contemporary practices can read, intervene and resignify these places.

Promoted under the Pláka platform, the Colectivos Pláka program brings together groups of reflection and thought production on contemporary art and artistic practice, with the central objective of exponentiating the opportunities for thinking, learning, sharing knowledge between artists and cultural agents residing in Porto.

More information about the publication “Post-Nostalgic Knowings” and respective acquisitions can be consulted on the website of the Municipal Gallery of Porto.
