After being described as one of the most moving and unique voices in contemporary music, ganavya takes the stage at Casa da Música on October 15 to perform her new album, Nilam — a work co-produced by Nils Frahm, scheduled for release on May 23 — live.
Nilam means “earth” in Tamil, and it is precisely this sense of rootedness that runs through the entire album — a meditation on belonging, balance and continuity. With delicate and touching compositions, ganavya offers the listener a space for deep listening, where fragility transforms into strength. This is a work that stands out for its honesty and beauty, built from multiple influences and a unique artistic and academic trajectory.
Ganavya was born in New York and raised in India. She is a singer, composer, researcher and educator, with a background in theatre, psychology, contemporary performance, ethnomusicology and critical thinking. She is a co-founder of the collective We Have Voice and has collaborated with names such as Peter Sellars, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding. Most recently, her vocal contribution was added to the new song “Cuentale” by David Guetta & Willy William & Nicky Jam.
Nilam is the result of a life dedicated to listening, creating, and constantly questioning the place of art in the world. An album that invites reflection, presence e and the sensitive experience of music that will gain even more layers live.
The concert is scheduled for October 15th in room 2 of Casa da Música, in Porto.
