Ganso, a Lisbon-based band under the label Cuca Monga, releases “Papel de Jornal”, the first single anticipating the release of the band’s third full-length album, scheduled for October 11.
“Papel de Jornal” is the new and first single following the release of “Sorte a Minha,” a song from 2022 that has already accumulated two and a half million listens on Spotify, after going viral on TikTok.
This new single is the rockiest and fastest-paced song on the new album, harkening back to the beginning of the band’s career. The guitar plays a fundamental role in the song, and there is also space for synthesizers that have more recently characterized Ganso’s sound. According to João Sala, the voice and musician of the group, the “lyrics is an egotrip in the style of hip hop, forming part of the concept of the rest of the album: a set of similarities that separate and differences that bring closer.”
“Papel de Jornal” is the first preview of Vice Versa, Ganso’s new album set to arrive with the Cuca Monga label, after being recorded over the summer in Paris, at La Frette studios. They were joined by Domingos Coimbra (Capitão Fausto) on production and Anthony Cazade, the engineer behind the latest works of Arctic Monkeys and Nick Cave.
The tour for the presentation of Vice Versa will be announced soon, a new show by Ganso, after spending the last months on tour showcasing their older repertoire.
Who are Ganso?
GANSO is a Lisbon-based band formed in 2015.
The debut EP, Costela Ofendida, marked a generation of independent releases in Portugal. It was produced by Diogo Rodrigues and released by the label Cuca Monga, alongside artists like Capitão Fausto, Modernos, B1SHPØ, and Luís Severo.
In the following year, they performed concerts across the country, even opening for Os Mutantes and ending a tour with Conjunto Cuca Monga. 2017 is the year they released their first full album, Pá Pá Pá, deepening the rock style of the first EP. They toured the country and played at the Paredes de Coura Festival in the summer of 2019.
They released their second album, Não Tarda, at the end of that same year, with a more defined and melancholic sound. In 2020, they participated in the album Cuca Vida, along with other members of the Cuca Monga bands with whom they performed across the country in the following summers. The band returned with the new danceable singles Gino (O Menino Bolha) and Sorte a Minha. In 2022, they played at Super Bock Super Rock and ended the year with a sold-out concert at Capitólio in Lisbon. Since then, they have been touring the country.
In June of this year, they recorded their third album at La Frette Studios in Paris.
The release of Vice Versa is scheduled for October 2024.
GANSO includes Luís Ricciardi, João Sala, Miguel Barreira, Gonçalo Bicudo, and Diogo “Horse” Rodrigues.
