‘Seasonal Shift’, to be released on December 4th, is presented by the band as an intercultural celebration, with songs in the spirit of celebration and also of reflection on the arrival of the end of the year, a balance of what happened in good and bad.
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]mong the guests of this Calexico album are Gisela João, on the theme ‘Tanta Tristeza’, as well as Tuareg guitarist Bombino, Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno, Mexican Camilo Lara, and American Nick Urata, founder of DeVotchKa.
The lineup includes several versions, including ‘Happy Xmas (War is over)‘, by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, ‘Christmas all over again‘, by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and originals, like ‘Hear the bells‘, the first topic to be released today.
Calexico, from whom the admiration for fado is publicly known, appeared in 1990, in Tucson, in the southern United States, by the musicians Joeys Burns and John Convertino.
With a sound marked by indie rock, but also by the tradition of country and Mexican music, given the geographical and cultural proximity to Mexico, Calexico released a dozen albums, including ‘Spoke‘, ‘Feast of wire’ and ‘Years to burn‘, this one in partnership with the musician Iron & Wine, and performed live in Portugal in 2019.
