“Glenn Hughes performs Deep Purple” no Casino Estoril

May 10th at 9pm

The Salão Preto e Prata of Casino Estoril will host, on the 10th of May, at 9 pm, the concert “Glenn Hughes performs Deep Purple”. Glenn Hughes, the singer and bassist of Deep Purple on the mythical albums “Burn”, “Stormbringer”, and “Come Taste the Band” features the group’s great hits such as “Stormbringer” or “Smoke on the Water”.

Glenn Hughes, former bassist and singer of Deep Purple, known by millions as the ‘Voice of Rock’ and recipient of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who was also the last singer of the supergroup of The Dead Daisies, is preparing to present in Portugal the show “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live – Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the album Burn”.

With a unique career, Glenn Hughes promises to interpret the legendary rock album “Burn” by Deep Purple, as well as other songs from Deep Purple MKIII and MKIV. The backing band for Glenn Hughes includes Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums), and Bob Fridzema (keyboards).

“It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that Deep Purple’s ‘Burn’ album was written at Clearwell Castle in Gloucestershire, UK”, recalls Hughes. “It was recorded later in October in Montreux, Switzerland”. Hughes, “We’ve all become one in this century-old castle in the UK countryside, it felt like the Deep were a new band, with David (Coverdale) and myself as new members, we couldn’t wait to start working on a new song. The atmosphere was electric in such an amazing environment.”

“All the songs on “Burn” were written in the crypt/center underneath the great room. We would work every day on a new song, and we were in the flow. Musically, we’d play, and we’d work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that later would have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday”. “As you can imagine, Ritchie Blackmore was in prank mode, Jon had warned me, and one night he rigged my room with a speaker that was hidden, and there were ghostly voices at my bedside.”

“The title track was the last song to be written. We came back from the bar, and we went down to the crypt, and the magic happened. It’s time to celebrate ‘Burn’, and I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans again”, concludes Glenn Hughes.
