“Glory Hole” by Tiago Torres da Silva is preparing to fill the Villaret Theater on March 31st
after all the sold out sessions at Teatro Taborda
Glory Hole is an unpublished text by Tiago Torres da Silva. It takes place in a house where men are looking for anonymous and quick sex.
A meeting between men of different ages, with different relational ambitions, generates a conflict where the ghosts of the past and the fears of the future mysteriously intertwine as if these fears and ghosts were also behind a wall with only one connecting hole.
Glory Hole assumes that prejudice always creates loneliness. The relational situation that any glory hole promotes, favouring relationships between strangers who fantasize about each other, seems to us to be a pertinent metaphor for a world where, through social networks, we all look through a “glory hole” where we show what we want under the effect of filters and photoshop without ever being sure if what we see on the other side is not also fiction. The meeting between these two men who, for different reasons, desire anonymity while at the same time desiring love, will be arbitrated by an invisible woman who we will never know if she is the cleaning lady if she is God, if she is a hallucination or if she is just the feminine side of one of them and a worker from the place who comes to undo all the convictions that led them there.
At the same time, a spectacle that is violent and dreamlike in the text, this thing that is, at the same time, dirt and poetry, solitude and love. This mystery is capable of transforming the harshest words into beauty.
