Gonçalo Oliveira in the round of the ‘challenge’ of Almaty

Portuguese tennis player Gonçalo Oliveira, 264th player, qualified today for the knockout rounds of Almaty’s hard-hitting Kazakhstan challenge by beating New Zealander lucky loser Jose Rubin Statham.

Gonçalo Oliveira beat the 545th in the hierarchy, who reached the main table due to the withdrawal of Uzbek Jurabek Karimov, in two sets, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-4) in a match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes.

In the second round, the Portuguese player will take action on Wednesday with Bosnian Mirza Basic, 77th in the ATP table and third seed.
