Good Omens returns for an ineffable third and final season on Prime Video

The unusual duo prepares to face Armageddon

As an expansion of the global bestselling book written by Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the third season will conclude the story of the Good Omens universe and its beloved characters.

Prime Video announces the renewal of the popular series Good Omens for the third and final season. The new episodes will be the result of a casual conversation almost 35 years ago between Neil Gaiman and the late Sir Terry Pratchett, in which they planned what would happen to the wonderful characters of their best-selling book around the world. Amazon Prime subscribers in Portugal can enjoy offers, free shipping and entertainment, all in the same subscription for just €4.99 per month or €49.90 per year.

“Good Omens met all the requirements of a smart, witty and fun comedy, which not only became a hit on Prime Video but made that “goodness” visible thanks to the immense creativity of Neil and Terry”, says Vernon Sanders, Head of Television from Amazon MGM Studios. “The final season will have the same dynamic energy that subscribers worldwide have experienced so far.”

Neil Gaiman stated: “I’m very happy to finally finish the story that Terry and I created in 1989 and 2006. Terry was determined to see this story through to the end if we made Good Omens for television. The first season was about avoiding Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. The second season was sweeter and more pleasant, although it may have ended less happily than certain Angels and Demons might have wanted. Now in the third season, we face the end of the world again. Plans to bring about Armageddon go wrong and only Crowley and Azirafel can find a solution, working together. But they don’t talk to each other.”

Rob Wilkins, executive producer of Good Omens, said: “We are delighted that Crowley and Azirafel are returning after breaking our hearts in season two. Seeing award-winning David Tennant and Michael Sheen together will be a joy. We wish Terry was here to enjoy this trip with us.”

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy at BBC Studios Comedy Productions, said: “It’s an exceptional joy to return to this wonderful and unique series. The world that Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett created has thrilled millions of fans around the world and we are delighted to take them to the gripping conclusion of the story that began 35 years (and several millennia) ago.”

The first season of Good Omens premiered as a miniseries on Prime Video in May 2019 and became a worldwide hit. This led to the series being renewed for a second season, which premiered in July 2023 and explored stories beyond the source material to show the ineffable friendship between Azirafel (Michael Sheen), a meticulous angel and rare bookseller, and the speedy demon Crowley (David Tennant).

Neil Gaiman returns as executive producer, screenwriter and showrunner. Narrative’s Rob Wilkins, on behalf of Terry Pratchett’s estate, as well as Josh Cole, Director of Comedy at BBC Studios Productions, will also executive produce. Good Omens is based on the beloved novel Good Omens, written by Sir Terry Pratchett and Gaiman. The new season is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation and Narrativia.

With this announcement, Amazon MGM Studios continues its agreement with Gaiman, which also includes the upcoming Anansi Boys series.
