Casino Lisboa will host, on December 25th, at 10 pm, the Gospel Collective. In another stage of the “Arena Live Concerts” cycle, the Gospel Collective performs, precisely, on Christmas Day at the Arena Lounge at Casino Lisboa, offering a real gift to its visitors. Entry is free.
Peace, Joy, Hope and Communion, the world cries out and the Christmas season also asks and longs for these elements. If music has transformative power, gospel in its richness can meet these ingredients and that is why this is Casino Lisboa’s proposal, a Christmas 2023 full of Peace, Joy, Hope and Communion with the Gospel Collective in a great celebration on one of the most special occasions of the year.
A Christmas celebrated differently, but always spiritual, full of joy, peace and unity in a show dedicated to Everyone. This Christmas 2023 with songs we will revisit some of the best-known black spirituals, remembering the diaspora and the hope stored in faith we will also sing some of the best-known songs of this season.
The Gospel Collective, which currently consists of around 70 voices, directed by conductor Anastácia Carvalho and Manuela Oliveira, is based in Lisbon and brings together professional and amateur singers from across the Portuguese-speaking world. The experienced group is around 12 years old but is led by members who have been linked to gospel music for 25 years. The repertoire began by being based on the Afro-American gospel songbook, black spirituals and also new/urban gospel, but today it also focuses on Afro-gospel, with the collective listening to songs in English, Portuguese or Swahili.
Perhaps because of this musical and cultural diversity, the shows are so full of energy and joy, but also moments of contemplation, unique and divine, where claps and tears are mixed, always in full communion and audience participation. Attending a Gospel Collective concert is a guarantee of an unparalleled show filled with rhythm, clapping, love, joy and improvisation.
The Arena Lounge at Casino Lisboa will host the “Arena Live 2023 Concerts” cycle until the end of the year. The program continues on Christmas Day, at 10 pm, with Gospel Collective and ends on New Year’s Eve with Xutos & Pontapés. Entry is free.
