The Portuguese soap opera ‘Ouro Verde‘, produced by Plural Entertainment Portugal, and broadcasted by TVI last year, is among the nominees for the now-announced International Emmy television awards, whose winners will be announced in November.
‘Ouro Verde’, written by Maria João Costa and starring Diogo Morgado and Joana de Verona, plays the Telenovela category with ‘Cesur ve Guzel’, ‘Istanbullu Gelin’, both from Turkey, and ‘Paquita La Del Barrio’, from the Mexico, according to information available today, on the official website of the prizes.
‘Ouro Verde’ was broadcast on TVI between January and October of last year.
The first Portuguese telenovela to be nominated for an International Emmy, and to win, was ‘Meu Amor’, in 2010, broadcast on TVI and starring Margarida Marinho, Alexandra Lencastre and Rita Pereira.
The following year, Portugal returned to win in the International Emmy Telenovela category, with ‘Laços de Sangue’, a telenovela broadcast on SIC and starring Joana Santos, Diana Chaves and Diogo Morgado.
After that, Portugal only adds nominations in that category: ‘Remedy Santo’ (TVI) and ‘Rosa Fogo’ (SIC) in 2012, ‘Belmonte’ (TVI) in 2014, and ‘Women’ (TVI) in 2015.
This month a jury of Portuguese and Brazilian personalities linked to the television industry gathered in Lisbon to select the nominees for two categories of television awards from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences each year.
The jury, who was meeting in the Town Hall of Lisbon City Council, decided on the nominees in the categories of Best Actress and Telenovela.
Founded in 1969, the United States International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is an organization that is comprised of members from more than 60 countries and about 500 companies in the television industry.
In the 36th edition of the International Emmy awards will be presented in 11 categories, in which are named productions and personalities from 20 countries.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 19 in New York, United States.
