Grupo Greve Cirúrgica advances with the proposal of Decree-Law for the appreciation of unions before going to the Ministry of Health and Parliamentary Groups and claims the end of inequalities between nurses of the National Health Service, proposing a Unique Nursing Career
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Greve Cirúrgica Group presented yesterday, March 1st, a proposal for a Decree-Law to the representatives of SITEU and SIPENF, which aims to solve the inequalities and labor injustices that have penalized Nurses since 2009 and guarantee the recognition of the hardship and rapid wear of the Nursing profession, reflected in the retirement age. The document will later be presented to the Ministry of Health and parliamentary groups.
Currently, Nurses with Individual Employment Contract (CIT) and Nurses with Employment Contract in Public Functions (CTFP) who work for the Ministry of Health, are imposed the same duties and offered different career progression regimes and remuneration levels , in a clear violation of the constitutional principle of equality.
The Greve Cirúrgica now presents a proposal for a Decree-Law that aims to end this discrimination between Nurses, guaranteeing a Unique Career for the Nursing Profession. The document was delivered yesterday for the appreciation of the two unions, SITEU and SIPENF, who showed interest in receiving the document for analysis.
“It is urgent to guarantee a Unique Nursing Career, putting an end to the existing inequalities within the same class, as a result of legislative inconsistencies. It is not possible to work side by side at the same hours, in the same service, for the same employer, have the same obligations and in the end we do not have the same rights” explain the representatives of the Greve Cirúrgica . “These inequalities can be resolved by changing the Law in force, now covering all nurses, regardless of their employment relationship“, they add.
The Greve Cirúrgica started this process in early 2020 when it requested the intervention of the Ombudsman. A year later, in January 2021, the Deputy Ombudsman warns of the need to change the point-counting system for the purpose of career progression that penalized nurses under the Individual Employment Contract regime, and requests the intervention of Deputy State and Health.
In 2018, the Commission for Revising the Basic Law on Health had also already proposed the unity of careers for health professionals in the National Health Service, regardless of the legal employment relationship.
