The third Mercadona store in Porto is located in Lordelo do Ouro. A supermarket that comes with more than the role of economic investment in the city: the Spanish group brings with this new store job creation, environmental concern, and a solidary aspect.

After Boavista and Campanhã, the food retail market leader in Spain installed over 1,900 square meters of sales area in the Fluvial area, on Rua de Diogo Botelho.

For the mayor of Porto, the choice of the place to invest is commendable since, as Rui Moreira recalls, “when we arrived at the City Council, this area was one of the most degraded in the city, with abandoned factories and people living in situations pitiful”. Being “one of the areas with the highest population density”, it is now endowed with “quality equipment like this”, as well as “well served in terms of mobility”.

According to Mercadona, 65stable and quality jobs were created, with permanent contracts from day one, thus contributing to the creation of local employment”. In addition to this factor, the Spanish group is once again investing in social responsibility and this third store will donate essential goods to the Diocesan Work for Social Promotion of Porto, which will help around two thousand people in economic need.
