The Art(e)facts Biennial of Knowledge integrates the area of Architecture and Territory of Guarda 2027 and invites artists, architects and designers to create projects to be produced in homes with artisans from Fundão, Guarda and Manteigas.
Burel weaving, wicker basketry, digital fabrication, linen weaving, pottery, and brown basketry, are the privileged areas and handcrafted techniques and the scale of the projects is free, allowing the framing from the scale of the human hand to interventions in the public space.
The biennial program will run until September 2021 and includes artistic residencies, a collective exhibition and an international conference.
Until March 19, the international call Art (e) facts 2021 is open, which “will award two projects with up to six thousand euros for fees and production”.
The initiative is aimed at contemporary artistic practice that presents proposals for unpublished projects or under investigation. Proposals, individually or collectively, should value local handicrafts, propose the learning of knowledge with local artisans and create works that result from the artist-artisan intersection and innovation in the field of current artistic creation.
The two selected projects will be announced in the first week of April and developed in May, in artistic residencies held in the workshops of local artisans.
The artistic residencies involve the production of six projects, four of them by creators invited by the organization, and culminate with a collective exhibition that will be inaugurated in July in several craft workshops in Fundão, Guarda and Manteigas.
The biennial regulation, which has the theme “Supernatural Togetherness”, can be consulted at artefacts-guarda2027.pt.
Interested parties can ask for clarification until March 1st and the deadline for submitting applications ends at 23:59 on the 19th.
