Young Guilherme Oliveira was one step away from reaching the podium in one of the most important and prestigious endurance races in world motorsports.
With his fourth-place finish in the 24 Hours of Spa, in the Bronze category of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, the national driver kept his title hopes intact.
In his third participation in a 24-hour race, Guilherme Oliveira once again demonstrated speed, consistency and a rare maturity for a young man of just 20 years of age. Another brilliant performance by the Portuguese driver in what is considered the most competitive GT championship in the world and in one of the most emblematic endurance races in the world.
“I am very happy,” began Guilherme Oliveira by stating. “It was a very difficult, tough and competitive weekend. It rained during practice, and the race was full of serious accidents. With over 70 cars on the track and such a close-knit team, it’s not exactly a surprise that it turned out that way. That’s why it was extremely demanding, both physically and mentally. We were always in the fight for the top spots and even led at night. We were a bit unlucky in some strategic details, but the team deserves congratulations: they gave us a perfect car. We were the best McLaren in town. Bronze category. Congratulations also to my teammates, who did an excellent job, without mistakes.”
Guilherme Oliveira shared the wheel of the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO of the British team Garage 59 with Shaun Balfe, Thomas Fleming and Jack Hawksworth.
The penultimate race on the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup calendar will be held between August 29 and 31, at the historic German circuit of Nürburgring.
