Gulden Draak Lisbon celebrates its birthday with the sound of DJ Levy Gasparian

A brewery with the largest range of draft beers in Portugal, it continues to exceed all expectations since its opening a year ago.
The time has come for Gulden Draak Lisboa to celebrate its anniversary, just over a month after the older sister of this brewery duo, Delirium Café, turned 7 years old. The party, of course, will be filled with the best labels and livened up by the infectious sound of DJ Levy Gasparian, who will start performing at 9 pm, on Saturday, March 2nd.
According to owner Verônica Fernandes, there is no shortage of reasons to celebrate: “It is a joy to be here to celebrate this first year of Gulden Draak Lisboa. The response has been incredible, and it only makes us more motivated to do more and better.”
This friendly and pleasant bar-restaurant, located in Picoas, is one of the hottest places in Lisbon and since its opening a year ago, it has broken attendance records every day.
Its success is not only due to bringing together the largest and best collections of beers in the country, which are global references, and having the largest range of draft beers in Portugal. Buoyed by this surprising but well-deserved success – taking into account the ambition and consistency of an assumed commitment to originality and quality – the owners Neko Pedrosa and Verônica Fernandes have advanced to an original menu, with delicious proposals, full of flavours, that please everyone. It should be noted that it is one of the few spaces in Lisbon where you can order a meal at any time of the day or night during opening hours. The house operates without breaks, between lunch and dinner and the kitchen is always ready.
Another original proposal from the owners that gave a lot to talk about and aroused a lot of sympathy was to include a special beer for dogs on the menu at Gulden Draak and Delirium Café. It is certainly one of the first places in Portugal where it is possible to take a dog for a walk, sit on the terrace or even inside the spaces and order two beers: one for the dog and one for whoever accompanies him!
ABOUT GULDEN DRAAK LISBOA – CASA DA CERVEJA
Opened in March 2023, on Rua Andrade Corvo, opposite the Picoas metro, in Lisbon, this is the first space in the capital dedicated to the mythical Belgian beer. The new bar-restaurant Gulden Draak – Casa da Cerveja focuses on the sophistication of the drink that is a global passion.
It’s a beer bar, but not only that. There are 450 square meters – yes, 450 square meters – dedicated to 50 beers on tap, accompanied by a vast list of drinks, cocktails and wines, to suit different tastes and moments, a space designed down to the millimetre to guarantee comfort and leisure.
In addition, the house also focuses on restaurants (online menu: https://guldendraak.crd.co/, with a brand image that promises to bring readings and reinterpretations of Portuguese and international dishes and snacks for pairings with beers and dishes that feature beer in its composition. During the week there are also executive lunches and happy hours.
Gulden Draak is a beautiful well-being space, comfortable and with a very careful aesthetic, with a very careful menu of food, drinks, ambient music or with guest DJs and where you can also play snooker and darts.
The decoration was designed by partner Verônica Fernandes herself, who decided to accept the challenge of taking her interior design hobby to a new level. “It was a long project, which transformed the 450m2 space, with immense potential, but which was cold and boring, into a cosy space full of personality. The starting point was the brand’s glass, inspired by the dragon’s egg, which was transformed into a ceiling with 350 lamps, while three skylights also flood the space with natural light”, reveals the owner, who explains: “Dragons come out of the egg that is here and there in the space, on the taps, in paintings, in the lighting… from the dragons, beers are born.”
The brand’s colours of white, black and red unfold on tiled walls, textures and prints, which form a large mosaic, and with furniture that mixes bistro chairs, velvet sofas and old photos. Through a glass aquarium, customers will be able to see the barrels and understand where the beers they drink come from.
Lighting is a fundamental part of the project and Renato Machado, an award-winning lighting designer from Rio, currently residing in Lisbon and a professor at the University of Évora, was invited to do so, bringing to the stage the drama that the partners wanted for the space.
The idea was to create a space that reflected the spirit of the brand: refined, eclectic and striking like its beers, with the magical touch of a golden dragon. A cosy and different space, for interesting people.
ABOUT THE OWNERS:
Verônica Fernandes and Neko Pedrosa, are a couple of cultural producers who left Rio de Janeiro for Lisbon in 2016 to bring to the Portuguese capital a branch of the iconic Belgian beer bar Delirium Café. Opened in 2017, in Chiado, the bar quickly became a reference in the Portuguese beer scene, with 35 beers on tap, good food and a relaxed atmosphere.
Six years later, in 2023, they decided to present the Lisbon scene with another concept linked to beer, this time from the renowned Belgian brand Gulden Draak Lisboa, which means golden dragon in Dutch. Gulden Draak – Casa dabar
Cerveja is located right in front of the Picoas metro. There are 50 taps – the largest offer of draft beers in Portugal, with several brand labels and another curation of other Belgian, German, Scottish, Spanish and Portuguese beers, made by partner Neko Pedrosa.
