Happy Mondays in Lisbon in September

September 28th at Sagres Campo Pequeno

Happy Mondays have just announced a unique concert in Portugal on September 28th at Sagres Campo Pequeno. The iconic Manchester band brings their classics to the country’s capital with an opening set by The Gulps.

Tickets will be available on March 14th at 10 am, at the usual locations and at everythingisnew.pt.

Formed in 1980 in Salford, Greater Manchester, Happy Mondays made their first official release with Forty Five in 1985 on Factory Records after being discovered by Tony Wilson. This was followed by the Squirrel and G-Man albums Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (1987) and Bummed (1988), which cemented their status on the Manchester music scene.

The album Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990), produced by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne, became a landmark for the band, achieving platinum status in the UK and selling over 350,000 copies. The singles “Step On” and “Kinky Afro” reached the top 5 of the UK charts. In 1992, they released “Yes Please!” recorded at Eddy Grant’s studios in Barbados. During the 90s, Happy Mondays gained international notoriety and toured the world several times. The original lineup remained until 1994, when the band split up. They retired in 1999 with some line-up changes, releasing a new single and accompanying Oasis on tour. After another break in 2001, they returned in 2004 and released the album Uncle Dysfunktional (2007).

The band continued to perform in the following years, participating in festivals and several international tours. In 2012, they reunited much of the original lineup again and released the Double Double Good collection. In 2015, they participated in the program “Singing in the Rainforest”, in which they recorded the song “Oo La La to Panama” with an indigenous tribe. In the following years, they continued to hit the road with several successful tours.
