High-level ‘Warriors’ knock down (again) Hungary in gold afternoon

Three days after the 2-1 triumph Portugal returned to beat the Hungarian congener, this time 4-1, in a big display at Alverca.

Two past tests with excellent grade! Three days after the 2-1 win, Portugal returned to beat Hungary in Alverca, this time with a 4-1 rout, with a superior display, stuffed with quality, dominance and even … some waste.

Rute Costa, Carole Costa, Dolores Silva and Diana Silva remained in the initial choices – Francisco Neto returned to present a team in the usual system, the 4x4x2, with Andreia Norton in the support to Diana Silva and Carolina Mendes, the two most advanced players in the Portuguese team.

Curiously, they would be the great figures of the first part. Portugal improved again, had a better ball and enjoyed the first great goal in the first minute, when Diana Silva, alone, did not hit the target. It was given the nickname for what would be a first time of absolute control of the national set.

Shortly after, after a corner, Carole Costa was very close to inaugurate the marker, after the first touch of Carolina Mendes. Two wasted opportunities, but the third … would be for good. The Hungarian defence disengaged, Diana Silva took the rebound, surpassed the goalkeeper Anna Samu and, with the deserted goal, gave advantage to the ‘Guerreiras’, causing ‘explode’ of joy the Municipal of Alverca, who once again returned to receive a remarkable human frame that never tired of supporting the team of all of us.

From here, the National Team maintained the action, dominated the rhythms of the match and managed to leave Hungary away from the goal of Rute Costa, who was only bothered in sets of ball stopped. It would, moreover, in this way, totally against the current of the game, that the tie arose. In a free kick from the right side of the attack, the Portuguese defender ‘forgot’ Fanni Vágó and the jersey 10, head, restored equality, ‘chilling’ an enthusiastic public with the display of the commanders of Francisco Neto.

However, the reaction was not delayed. In the last minute of the first half, Joana Marchão worked well on the right side and crossed to the heart of the area, where Carolina Mendes appeared to push the ball to the bottom of the Hungarian networks, replacing Portugal in front of the scoreboard. A more than deserved goal, both for the opportunities created and for the excellent delivery that the advanced of Sporting demonstrated throughout the meeting.

Control, management and … ‘final ax’

As expected, Hungary came back with another provision of the interval and sought the tie. At the 49th minute, Rute Costa, with a great ‘flight’, avoided the goal. Already with Jéssica Silva in the field – entered all the gas and totally unbalanced the counter defence -, Portugal was again very close to the third. Newcomer Cláudia Neto took a free kick to the right and Carole Costa, on the second post, appeared to deflect but came face to face with the Hungarian goalkeeper who shone again.

Always in high rotation, Jéssica Silva was doing the ‘head in the water’ to the Hungarians and was even from the feet of the extreme of the Levant that emerged the third. In a swift move on the left side, jersey 20 gained the bottom line and crossed late into the area, where Vanessa Marques came to touch, adding his second consecutive game to score.

By the end, Cláudia Neto still confirmed the thrashing and extended the result to 4-1. Francisco Neto may be satisfied with this stage, where the ‘Warriors’ won two battles in a clear way.
