Honeymoon Suite is a band that brings all the energy, elegance and melody of its songs to the stage in its live shows, and the iconic songs “Feel it again”, “What does it take”, “New girl now” and “Love changes everything” were highlights at LAV.
The Canadian rock band formed in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in 1981, achieved significant popularity in Canada and a following in the United States. Honeymoon Suite, the band’s name, is a reference to Niagara Falls, a popular honeymoon destination.
The core of the band was initially formed by vocalist and guitarist Johnnie Dee, guitarist Derry Grehan, keyboardist Brad Bent and drummer Mike Lengyell. By 1983, all but Dee had left, leading him and Grehan to rebuild the lineup with drummer Dave Betts. The bassists and keyboardists would change over time.
The band gained significant attention after their demo of “New Girl Now” won Toronto rock station Q107’s Homegrown contest. They then signed with WEA Canada and released their self-titled debut album in the summer of 1984. This album was a major success in Canada, reaching triple platinum status and spawning the hit singles “New Girl Now”, “Burning in Love”, “Wave Babies” and “Stay in the Light”. “New Girl Now” also reached the US charts.
The 1986 album The Big Prize, produced by Bruce Fairbairn, was equally successful in Canada, featuring the hits “Feel It Again”, “What Does It Take”, “Bad Attitude” and “All Along You Knew”. “Feel It Again” was their most successful single in the US.
The band continued to release albums throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, going through some lineup changes. The original lineup reunited in 2007 for a tour and released a new studio album, Clifton Hill, in 2008. With core members Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan, it continues to tour and release new music, including its latest album, Alive, in February 2024.
Honeymoon Suite won the 1986 Juno Award for “Group of the Year” and achieved multi-platinum sales in Canada. His music has been featured in several films and TV shows, including “Lethal Weapon”, “The Wraith”, “Miami Vice” and “Bones”. Honeymoon Suite remains a beloved rock band in Canada, known for their catchy melodies, strong vocals and enduring hits from the 80s.
