The Corroios festivities, year after year, present an excellent poster, Festivities that are announced, by the organization, as the largest in the country, organized by a parish, were yesterday with the presence of Peste & Sida and Horas Vagas, for a night full of rock.
After Virgo Suta and Mars County, the XXVII Corroios Folklore Festival, Jenifer Solidade Almeida, Sangre Ibérico, and Tertúlia Coimbrã de Miratejo, among many others who passed through the various stages spread around the venue, it was the night of Peste & Sida and Horas Vagas.
1st part with Horas Vagas
Horas Vagas – Worker Rock were the first to enter the stage and warm up the audience that was about to see them, the legendary Peste & Sida, owners of great energy, quickly won over the audience that went to the venue to see them.
The band from the south bank, founded in 2012, has as reference big names in national rock, such as UHF, Xutos & Pontapés, Censurados and Tara Perdida, has Jorge Correia on drums, Paulo Soares on bass, João Rei on guitar, Manuel Soares on the Guitar and Lourenço Rosário on the Voice, and took to the stage to present the rock/punk themes with intervention lyrics and had the guest Orlando Cohen, who played for Censurados and Peste & Sida and who would return to the stage again with Peste & Sida and remember the years when he “set the stages on fire” with the band.

The legendary Peste & Sida
Who does not remember this mythical band from Lisbon, formed in 1986 by João San Payo on bass, Luís Varatojo on guitar, Eduardo Dias on drums, and João Pedro Almendra who later joined Orlando Cohen, and their many songs, such as “Veneno ”, “Furo na Cabeça”, “Gingão” or “Carraspana”.
Themes that even today make the oldest and youngest sing and dance, as yesterday in Corroios, where several generations attended to hear them, participated in the 4th Modern Music Competition of Rock Rendez-Vous, and edited for the Transmédia the Veneno LP with a very Punk aesthetic, the cover of the disc was even a copy of London Calling, by the British The Clash.
The group, however, did not stick to punk and styles such as reggae, rock, and even rap, became part of the repertoire, Portem-se Bem, an LP that has the theme “Sol da Caparica”, which is the version by Peste, of an American theme from the 60s, is their greatest success. But “Chuta Cavalo…E Morrerás”, the version of the popular Alentejo theme “Vamos Lá Saindo e Paulinha” was also very popular.
The band quickly conquered the public and even played the first parts of the English P.I.L., a group that was led by John Lydon, at the time still Johnny Rotten, lead singer of the Sex Pistols, was a high moment in the group’s career.
The band’s constitution has changed over time, but the magic continues, whether with their original themes or versions, there is no audience that resists them and does not sing with them the most iconic themes.
At Corroios festivities they presented themes from their latest album, Não Há Pão, released at the end of 2022, but also went through the most iconic themes of a discography that has several albums, Veneno, Portem-se Bem, Peste & Sida é Que é!, Eles Andam Aí!, Tóxico, Cai no Real and Não há Crise of 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 2004; 2007 and 2011 respectively.
