Luxury hotels in Dubai hire ESHT Estoril students in force

Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts Group, owner of the iconic Burj Al Arab, presents more than a hundred vacancies for internships for undergraduate finalists and master’s students at the Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril.

The international prestige of the Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril (ESHTE) continues to rise and has just opened its doors to the Middle East for finalists. This is because the prestigious Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts Group expressed interest in receiving more than a hundred graduates or master’s degree students from the institution, for six-month internships in Dubai.

The proposals from the group belonging to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – focus on the Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts units in Dubai, where a trio of iconic hotels will be complete with the opening of Jumeirah Marsa al Arab, very close to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the world-renowned Burj Al Arab.

“This interest shown by Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts is strongly motivating and confirms that the institution is on the right path. It is also a sign of recognition to the quality of education in Portugal, in this case in the area of tourism”, highlights Carlos Brandão, president of an institution that boasts an enviable employability rate, of around 96%.

The opening of the group’s new hotel units shortly increases the declared interest in finalists of all degrees and those attending the various master’s degrees at the Estoril Superior School of Hotel and Tourism, with extremely competitive conditions for young people.

“There are more and more entities providing training in these areas, but they do not have the commitment, knowledge and training quality of ESHTE. We feel that our students leave here prepared to give an excellent response to the most demanding challenges. On the other hand, this approach, another one from abroad, should also serve as a strong warning for the national market. If they want good students, they will have to attract them with better conditions, at various levels”, highlights Carlos Brandão.

To clarify questions and present the proposed conditions for the six-month internships, with a view to the second semester of 2024, Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts will promote an information session for students, on April 4, via Teams.

“We received direct contact from the Human Resources director of the Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts group expressing interest in receiving our students on internships, with prospects for continuity. We already have more than 70 people registered for the information session and this window that opens to the UAE is, naturally, a recognition of the work carried out over the years at ESHTE”, highlights, for his part, João Pronto, professor and Office Coordinator of Internships at the institution.

Distinguished for the second consecutive year with the award for Best Training in Tourism in Portugal, the Estoril Higher School of Hotel and Tourism is heading towards a new record for finalists placed in international internships, with Dubai threatening to dethrone Greece as the preferred destination for students.

In 2023, among 734 ESHTE degree final year internships, 90 were carried out across borders and 53 of these – more than half, therefore – took place in Greek hotels, especially the luxury units of the Sani/Ikos Hotels and Nana Hotels groups.

ESHTE maintains a strong commitment to investigation

The freedom and democracy achieved half a century ago in Portugal paved the way for the intensification of international relations, of which these growing stages outside the country are flagrant examples. Assuming itself as a space for reflection on these dynamics, the “Tourism and Democracy Seminar, (more than) 50 years of travel”, an initiative of the school’s Center for Research, Development and Innovation (CIDI), is part of the national agenda for disseminating celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th. The reflection session is scheduled for April 16, in the Estoril Room at ESHTE, between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

A functional unit of the Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril, CIDI plays an important role in an institution that constantly seeks to be at the forefront of innovation and develop students’ skills along the way. In March, the Center for Research, Development and Innovation promoted two Turiscovery events: a conference and a competition for ideas for scientific articles, organized by students and aimed at the academic community.

ESHTE, which is currently accepting applications for master’s and postgraduate courses for the next academic year, maintains a strong focus on research and, in this sense, recently signed a financing and hiring support program contract with the Government for an indefinite period of two doctorates for a career in scientific research.
