In a solidarity campaign, the Meliá Madeira Mare Hotel joined the noble cause of the “Alive & Kicking” project, which helps to grow happier, healthier and more capable communities, by creating access to jobs, leisure and education.

This unit purchased a total of 175 hand-crafted personalized soccer balls, which, during the Football World Cup, will be offered to its customers, in a promotional action for the purchase of drinks.

Alive & Kicking” is a social enterprise with branches in Kenya, Zambia and the UK, producing handcrafted sports balls, keeping adults employed and raising health awareness through sport. As it is a social enterprise, all funds raised from the sale of the balls are invested in social and community projects, such as the development of “Ball Libraries” in primary schools in the Nairobi area or the fight against stigmatization and social exclusion of infected people. with AIDS.

In addition to its social projects, Alive and Kicking Kenya provides employment (and working conditions well above average for Kenya) to around 50 employees with disabilities (including physical, intellectual, illiterate, with a criminal background, and HIV-positive, among others). ). Each employee has an initial period of intensive training of 6 months to be able to bake the balls.
