With just a few hours to go before the start of the Madeira Rally, Hugo Lopes says, “It’s one of my favourite events. The stages are spectacular, and the passion of the Madeirans for rallying is incredible. Both the reconnaissance, the test we did with the Hyundai i20N Rally 2, and the shakedown went very well. Now it’s time to go as fast as possible and put on a show.” The young driver will be paired with Magda Oliveira.
The last few days have been a time of intense preparation for the Rio native. “The training sessions went very well, and we stuck to the plan, which allowed me to remember these roads that I admire so much,” reveals Hugo Lopes. “During the week, we also conducted a test session with the Hyundai i20N Rally 2. It was very important to regain some rhythm, since the last rally I participated in was a month and a half ago, and to accumulate a few more kilometres and experience with the car.”
Although he’s not under any pressure regarding the result, Hugo Lopes heads into the Madeira Rally determined to be competitive: “I like this event; it has a very special atmosphere and characteristics. I don’t know the terrain as well as other drivers – this will only be my third participation – and the competition is very strong. Even so, I’m focused on giving my best, learning as much as possible, and enjoying the experience.”
Finally, Hugo Lopes emphasises: “I want to extend a very special thank you to Hyundai Portugal, Sports & You, and all my sponsors for making this participation in the Madeira Rally possible. It wasn’t part of our initial schedule, and it’s a crucial opportunity for Magda and my development.”
