Hugo Van der Ding in “A Grande Fantochada”

in October at Teatro Maria Matos

We couldn’t really dive into the summer without announcing one of the most exciting novelties of the rentrée.

The new show by Hugo Van der Ding will be on stage on the 30th and 31st of October and the 1st of November, at Teatro Maria Matos. “A Grande Fantochada” is an unprecedented format, created by one of our most original comedians, who recreates the History of Portugal (and other stories) in a live show through puppets – manipulated by Van der Ding himself – to the sound of the music of pianist Joana Gama.

“I am not a puppet in your hands”. Thus ended another love affair of Hugo van der Ding. Inspired by this idea, he takes eight puppets and, accompanied by the piano, goes on stage to do his favorite thing. Smoke crack? Play Skool Daze on ZX Spectrum simulators? Invent recipes for traditional Portuguese cuisine but with gum? Of course not. Tell stories! From Portugal, Europe, the World. Big, small Important, or just curiosities. Thus A Grande Fantochada was born. A show for adults and children, especially indoor ones.

After the success of “Vamos Todos Morrer”, – where the author transferred his passion for History to a podcast, which gave rise to a book and later a show – Hugo van der Ding once again gives wings to his incomparable talent for (re)tell History with the irreverence, sharp sense of humor and creative streak that characterizes him so well.
