IADE develops personal protective equipment to combat COVID-19

The College of Design, Technology and Communication of the European University develops personal protective equipment to combat the spread of COVID-19 infection.

IADE – College of Design, Technology and Communication of the European University has developed an individual protection project for health professionals and professionals who have to guarantee essential services and attendance to the public, within the scope of measures to combat the spread of infection by COVID-19.

Aware of the scarcity of this medical equipment in the prevention of this pandemic, the school developed from scratch a project of design and production of visors that safely contribute to the protection and minimization of the spread of the virus.

Analyzed and validated by health professionals, and respecting the regulations in terms of material and hygiene, IADE visors are easy to use and reusable. Developed with 0.75mm transparent polycarbonate, PLA and Elastic Nautical materials, their production is based mainly on laser cutting technology and using 3D printing, which allows greater production in a short time.

With design by Vasco Milne, 3D modeling by Ruben Martins and Miguel Diniz, and production by Vasco Milne and Diamantino Abreu, the project is currently in the prototype phase, with the team developing 360 visors in just two days.

Given the need for greater availability of this protective material, IADE has already been developing, from design to production, more than 600 visors, in partnership with Ondagrafe, a digital production company, thus making a total of 960 visors which will be donated to Beatriz Ângelo, Santa Maria, Amadora Sintra and Estefânia Hospitals.
