Ice Spice releases “Gimmie A Light”

first single from the highly anticipated debut album Y2K

Grammy-nominated superstar Ice Spice is back with “Gimmie A Light” – the first official single taken from her debut album, “Y2K,” due out later this year.

Produced by Ice Spice’s longtime collaborator RiotUSA — who produced career-defining hits like the gold single “Munch (Feelin U)” — “Gimmie A Light” is centred around a sample from “Gimme the Light,” the 2002 single from dancehall legend Sean Paul. With all the natural star power that made her an icon shortly after emerging on the New York drill scene, Baddie from the Bronx releases a two-minute anthem that highlights her clever rhymes and powerful vocal control. Sleek and controlled, the result is a high-energy song filled with energetic beats and irresistible melodies.

For the video for “Gimmie A Light,” Ice Spice once again joined forces with George and Frederick Buford, aka The Evil Twins – the fast-rising New York filmmaking duo behind the hit visuals. previous ones like “Deli” and “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” (his collaboration with PinkPantheress, which dominated the charts in 2023 and went platinum). Equal parts fantasy and hyperreality, “Gimmie A Light” places Ice Spice in a dizzying sequence of high-glamour scenarios: drinking Patrón El Alto on the dance floor with a glittering jewel bearing his image; posing with large stacks of money dressed in her J’adore Dior children’s T-shirt; rolling around in the back of a hot pink Range Rover, surrounded by stuffed animals as the car speeds through the streets of her hometown.

Last month, at Coachella, Ice Spice moved the audience with a performance of “Gimmie A Light”. The debut at the famous festival attracted praise from media such as UPROXX, which proclaimed that Ice Spice “will almost certainly be the headliner at Coachella shortly if his trajectory continues [like this]”.

Due for release later this year, Y2K has been hailed as one of the most anticipated albums of 2024. The title is a reference to his birthday (January 1, 2000). Ice Spice’s debut album will also include the recent hit single “Think U The Shit (Fart).” The album follows the acclaimed debut EP “Like..?” — a 2023 release that appeared on the best of the year lists from Pitchfork, “Rolling Stone”, “The New York Times”, among other media, and featured hits such as “Munch (Feelin U)”, “In Ha Mood” (a platinum record) and “Princess Diana”.
