It is at the end of February that the island of Sal will host, for the third consecutive time, the Kitesurfing World Cup, GKA World Cup. On the waves of the famous Ponta Preta beach, the best athletes, arriving from more than thirty countries will fight for the best scores in the championship, including the trio of Cape Verdean world champions, Airton Cozzolino, Mitu Monteiro, and Matchu Lopes.
Cape Verde receives the first leg of the 2020 kitesurfing world championship, scheduled to start on February 29, at Ponta Preta beach, Sal island. Expresso das Ilhas spoke exclusively with Débora Abu Raya, from Nautic Sports Events, organizer of the Cape Verde stage and, which has the trust and support of the national authorities, through the Ministries of Sport and Tourism and, also, the Municipality of Sal.
In addition to the tourism promotion of the island of Sal and, in the country, Abu Raya, it draws attention to the unique opportunity that is offered to young athletes and to the new promises of kitesurfing at a national level.
The world kitesurfing championship, GKA World Cup 2020, will pass through some of the most prestigious beaches and best spots for the practice of the sport, worldwide, including the United States of America, France, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and the Caribbean.
However, Cape Verde and Ponta Preta beach, in Sal, have the honor of opening the world event with a flourish, by hosting its first stage.
