The Portuguese author and illustrator Catarina Sobral was distinguished in China at the International Book Fair of Shanghai, with the book “Comment ça, il a renoncé?”, Still unpublished in Portugal was announced today.
The book fair began today, announcing the winners of the international awards for young illustrators, with Catarina Sobral receiving a special mention for the illustrated album ‘Comment ça, il a renoncé?’.
The book was originally published this year by the Swiss publisher Éditions Notari and is still unpublished in Portugal. Anchored in reality, this is a “contemporary, surreal and disturbing story on the subject of sustainable development,” says the Swiss publisher.
Catarina Sobral receives the special mention after being one of the 50 finalists to the prize of the Chinese literary fair, together with the Portuguese illustrator Carolina Celas, who competed with the book ‘Horizonte’.
Catarina Sobral, who had the visual work featured during the month of October at the Teatro Luís de Camões – LU.CA in Lisbon, has about a dozen picture books, most of which have already been translated and edited in other countries, such as South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Spain and Switzerland. Some of them, like ‘Achimpa’ and ‘My grandfather’, earned him international awards.
The book “Empty” (2014) gave rise to an animated film, the ‘Reason between two volumes’, already presented at festivals.
He recently edited the book ‘Impossible’, about the origin of the universe, already transposed to the stage.
The Shanghai Children’s Book Fair, held for the first time in 2013, ends on Sunday.
