Inauguration of the exhibition “Porto in Miniatures”

Ateneu do Porto

Ateneu Comercial do Porto inaugurates this Saturday (10 December), at 5 pm, the exhibition “Porto in Miniatures”, which will display until the end of January miniaturized replicas of 17 emblematic monuments of the best tourist destination in the world city. The collection, which can be visited from December 12th, reflects the dedication of the jeweler Licínio Sousa to “Invicta”.

The São Bento Station, the Clérigos Tower, the Palácio da Bolsa, the Feitoria Inglesa, the Ribeira and the bridges, the City Hall, the Livraria Lello, the Café Majestic, the Marégrafo of Foz do Douro and even the picturesque toilets from Passeio Alegre are some of the sets on display. Seen through the creative eye and manual care of a single man, who, after becoming a jeweler and goldsmith throughout his life, chose his final two decades to reflect his dedication to another art and to his land.

Licínio Sousa, who is no longer with us, started the hobby in his native Foz and quickly moved on to the main monuments in Porto, not just reproducing the exterior appearance of buildings. “In many cases, the models include very curious interior details – the staircase of Livraria Lello, the Sessions Room of the Porto Chamber, the hall of São Bento Station or the Arab Room of the Palácio da Bolsa –, equipped with lighting and, for sometimes even mechanically animated”, notes Manuel de Sousa, who will guide some guided tours in this exhibition at Ateneu Comercial do Porto.

Tickets for the exhibition at Ateneu Comercial do Porto, which can be viewed from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, cost €5 and can be purchased online, on the institution’s website.
