Is open the 2nd edition of Linha de Água – Trás-os-Montes Contemporary Art Biennial

From this Saturday, May 18th until November 30th, four Trás-os-Montes municipalities will host the 2nd edition of the Trás-os-Montes Contemporary Art Biennial – Linha de Água, spread across a total of eight exhibition spaces.

The event will also include less tangible interventions for the general public, such as teacher training, training of cultural mediators, workshops in schools and in the event’s educational spaces, and also interactions between artistic residencies and local communities, philosophical dialogues /reflective discussions between experts and researchers, with the aim of reflecting the identities and cultures of different regions.

The event’s inauguration takes place on International Museum Day (May 18), starting at 5 p.m., at the Museu de Arte Sacra de Macedo de Cavaleiros, but the works of more than 150 represented national and foreign artists will also be distributed in the same municipality, by the Cultural Center, the Azibo Welcome Center and the Municipal Market.

In Alfândega da Fé, the Lagar d`El Rei was the space chosen to host the Biennale, while, in Vinhais, the Centro Cultural Solar dos Condes de Vinhais will assume the same function. In Freixo de Espada à Cinta, the initiative passes through the S. Filipe Neri Convent and the Cultural Center.

The Trás-os-Montes Contemporary Art Biennial has grown exponentially, not only in quantity, but in quality. And, as explained by Benjamin Rodrigues, president of Macedo de Cavaleiros City Council, “it aims to promote a space for contemporary artistic creation and reflection, exploring the uniqueness of the region’s arts and heritage”.

The agenda also includes a seminar dedicated to art and education, as well as debates and workshops on cultures, arts and memory heritage, in order to provide in-depth and enriching debates.
