India makes 34 scholarships available to Mozambicans

India will provide 34 scholarships for Mozambican citizens to attend undergraduate and graduate courses in the Indian state of Gujarat, as one of the ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of higher education.

The information was recently shared, in Maputo, by the High Commissioner of the Republic of India, Rajeev Kumar, during a meeting between the Minister of Science and Technology, Higher Education and Technical-Professional, Gabriel Salimo.

On the occasion, Kumar said that on this path, the Minister of Higher Education of the Indian State of Gujarat will make a working visit to Mozambique, from the 23rd to the 26th of this month, in which he will be accompanied by a delegation composed of representatives from 14 universities in that State of the Indian Union.

The mission, as stated by the High Commissioner of India, aims to assess opportunities for cooperation in the field of higher education, between the universities of Gujarat and national higher education institutions.

In turn, Gabriel Salimo, expressed the Government’s openness to receive this ministerial mission, as well as to participate in all activities to be carried out in the context of the visit.

On the challenges of cooperation between the two countries, Salimo highlighted the need to adjust the joint work program and the elaboration of the respective action plan, as well as the materialization of the Memorandum of Understanding for Tele-Medicine and Tele-Education, signed in October 2019, in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

He said that Mozambique is interested in continuing to count on the support of the Indian Government to boost initiatives and programs in the area of ​​Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) legislation, to strengthen support for technical and professional education, and to boost and boost the Science Park. and Technology from Maluana and revitalize scholarship programs for the postgraduate level in Natural Sciences.

Responding to the wishes of the Government, Rajeev Kumar, affirmed that one of the immediate bets in the scope of bilateral cooperation is the establishment of a pilot project in Tele-Education and Tele-Medicine, and for this purpose, a higher education institution must be identified and a Mozambican health unit to initial agreements with Indian counterparts, for their materialization.
