‘Indignation with action’. Brigade of the Sea cleans 45 km on the Alentejo coast
Initiative runs until the 18th. The objective is to recover the dune system and protect the coastal shoreline.
Brigada do Mar, an environmental association that decontaminates and cleans beaches, organizes a great cleaning action from May 1 to 18, between Melides and Tróia.
More than 300 volunteers will take marine litter and hazardous waste out of 45 kilometres of coastline, sending them to the recycling and treatment circuit, the organization said in a statement.
Although the theme of garbage in the environment, being plastic the main enemy, is a subject that has never known so much concern, for 11 years the Brigade of the Sea has organized this annual action. The objectives are “the recovery of the dune system and the protection of the coastline“.
Under the motto ‘Indignation with action’, the association is proud to have cleaned in Portugal more than 600 linear kilometres of coastline and to have removed more than 550 tons of rubbish from the sand.
With this association, more than 6,000 volunteers collaborated in more than 200 effective days of cleaning and awareness-raising initiatives.
The cleaning of the beaches of the coast of Grândola (45 kilometres) will run from day 4 to day 12. From day 13 to day 17, the collected garbage will be sorted (in the Field of the Fair of Melides). Day 18 is reserved for the dissemination of results, debates
