The social practices and strategies of the InterContinental Lisbon and InterContinental Porto have been recognised by various entities and awards over the years.
More recently, the hotel in the capital reaffirmed its distinction as a Brand with a Mention of Excellence, while the Porto hotel earned the Inclusive Employer Brand designation for the first time.
The Inclusive Employer Brand, awarded by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), seeks to recognise the best inclusive management practices in the Portuguese labour market. Thus, it recognises organisations that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, actively contributing to a fairer and more accessible labour market.
In the 2025 edition, the InterContinental Lisbon once again reaffirms its position regarding its inclusive practices in the workplace, maintaining its Brand and Excellence designation, reinforcing its continuous and consistent practices, and consolidating its position as a national and international benchmark for the social impact it promotes.
The InterContinental Porto has been awarded, for the first time, the Inclusive Employer Brand designation, demonstrating its strong commitment to inclusion and diversity. This is a crucial milestone in promoting a more equitable workplace, with the Porto hotel exemplifying not only social responsibility but also innovative HR practices in the luxury hotel sector nationwide.
“These distinctions reflect the daily work we have done over the years in terms of diversity and inclusion at both hotel units and reflect our continued focus on social policies, practices, and strategies that underpin the full purpose and value of our mission,” says Vítor Silva, Area Director of Human Resources Portugal at InterContinental Hotels Group. “Once again, maintaining the Mark of Excellence with IC Lisbon and achieving the Mark for the first time with IC Porto proves that we are on the right track. I believe we will continue working to promote a culture in which all our employees feel valued and respected, thus reinforcing our DE&I commitment in the sector,” he adds.
The nominations were reviewed by a committee of experts composed of professionals appointed by SUPERA – the Portuguese Society of Engineering and Rehabilitation, Assistive Technologies and Accessibility, the Portuguese Association for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
With these awards, the InterContinental Lisbon and InterContinental Porto become the only hotels in Portugal to receive this distinction in 2025, affirming the brand’s notoriety and boosting the standards of luxury hospitality in Portugal and open and inclusive management regarding people with disabilities.
