International conference on migration brings António Vitorino to Lisbon

The Director-General of the International Organization of Migration (IOM), António Vitorino, is the main speaker of the sixth edition of the Portuguese-German Forum, dedicated this year to international migration.

The initiative, under the theme “Perspectives on Migration: Political Action and Civic Participation”, organized by the Portuguese and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Berlin European Academy, the ISCTE-IUL School of Sociology and Public Policies and the Emigration Observatory. the participation of national and international specialists in the area of ​​migration.

In addition to the intervention of António Vitorino, the conference will take place in two panels: The Global Challenge and The European Response.

Francesco Vacchiano, from the Institute of Social Sciences, Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, resident coordinator of the United Nations in Turkey, and Michelle Amedeo from the European Commission participate in the first panel on the global challenge of migration.

Lucinda Fonseca, from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, João Peixoto, from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management and Ambassador Thomas Ossowski, the EU’s special representative for the policies of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, complete the second panel on response to the issue of migration.

The conference program also includes an exchange of Portuguese-German experiences on civil society response to migration, with the participation of Vasco Malta of the High Commission for Migration, Dina Moreira, advisor to the Amadora City Council, on the Portuguese side, and Andreas Buttner, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Health, Women and Family, Brandenburg State, and Hatice Akyun, a journalist, on the German side.

The closing ceremony will be made by the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Ana Paula Zacarias, the German ambassador, Christof Weil, and Maria das Dores Guerreiro, vice-rector for the internationalization of ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
