The 16th International Jazz Festival of Portalegre (JazzFest) opens today with a solo concert of the musician Marc Ribot, “headlining” the event that promises to present “eclectic” programming over three days.
The event, promoted by the municipality, takes place at the Performing Arts Center of Portalegre (CAEP) until Saturday, with the presence of various names of national and international jazz.
Marc Ribot’s show is scheduled for 9:30 pm today, followed by a concert with Caterina Palazzi ‘Sudoku Killer’, which will return to the stage on the second day of the festival, at the same time. hour.
“The performance of Marc Ribot Solo will certainly be a memorable concert and we always strive to bring a great name every year,” told the artistic director of CAEP, Joaquim Ribeiro.
According to the official, “the festival’s programming for this year is eclectic,” featuring “different styles“.
On Friday, the second day of Portalegre JazzFest will have as a high point the concert of Hedvig Mollestad Trio, with his instrumental progressive rock, from 21:30.
The third and final day of the festival attracts, as of 23:00, the concert with the bass player Carlos Bica, the German saxophonist Daniel Erdmann and the DJ Illvibe.
Before, at 9:30 p.m., the Hearth project, featuring a female quartet composed of the Slovenian Kaja Draksler, the Argentine Ada Rave, the Danish Mette Rasmussen and the Portuguese Susana Santos Silva, will take to the stage, which will take advantage of their presence in Portalegre for the recordings of your new album.
In the three days of the festival, always at 18.00, there are also planned ‘Jam Sessions’.
“There is a strong presence of women in this festival, there is a lot of gender equality. This is the festival that we have idealized here,” said Joaquim Ribeiro.
According to the artistic director of CAEP, the event has a budget that “is around 30 thousand euros“, in addition to private sponsorships.
During the days of Portalegre JazzFest, CAEP will also serve as a stage for a fair of the album and a sample of wines and regional products.
The daily tickets are priced at 10 euros, and the festival can get a pass for the entire festival for 20 euros.
