The Higher School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (ESS/IPS), celebrates on Wednesday, May 12, the International Nurses Day, with an online conference on the future of health care and the problem of mental health in the context of a pandemic.
The anniversary, instituted by the International Council of Nurses, marks the birth of Florence Nightingale, on May 12, 1820, considered the mother of modern nursing, being an opportunity to reflect on the challenges of the profession, this year under the general theme “Uma Visão para o Futuro dos Cuidados de Saúde”.
ESS/IPS joins the celebrations with a communications panel, to follow via the Zoom platform, starting at 2:30 pm, through which “we celebrate in a special way the contribution of nurses to fight the pandemic, we will discuss the implications of this on health mental health and the future of health care in a globalized and changing world”, as explained by the Nursing Department, which organizes the initiative.
The second part of the ceremony, starting at 4:15 pm, will be dedicated to the Commitment of the 17th Degree Course in Nursing, bringing together a group of nurses who completed their degree in 2019/2020 but who, due to the pandemic situation, were prevented from complying this solemn act, as is tradition in ESS/IPS.
At the ceremony, of great symbolism for students and their families, the future nurses undertake, before society and their peers, to comply with the humanistic and scientific values received during their training at ESS/IPS, to respect the principles that they guide the profession, and to continue the process of lifelong learning, “on the path of reflection, autonomy, and excellence”.
The event, which will take place at the IPS Auditorium, will be broadcast live on Youtube.
