Isabel Rato Quinteto on stage at SeixalJazz 2020

Isabel Rato, pianist, composer, arranger and producer has been asserting herself as one of the names the new generation of national jazz, was present at the SeixalJazz International Festival 2020.

Resident in Seixal, Isabel Rato took the stage as if she were at home, in an almost full room, she was very cherished by the audience that was present, in the company of João David Almeida in the voice, João Capinha on the saxophone (soprano, alto and tenor), João Custódio on contrabass and Alexandre Alves on drums, it was with “Movimento“, the theme of his first album “Para além da Curva da Estrada” that started the concert.

Isabel Rato did not fail to thank the Festival for being invited, “It is an Honor and Privilege to be and participate in this Seixal Jazz Festival” mentioned the composer. “Das Nuvens” theme of his second album “Histórias do Céu e da Terra” theme was written by Isabel Rato and inspired by Cristina Branco was the theme that followed.

Fernando Pessoa was “present” in João David Almeida’s masterful interpretation of the words of his heteronym Ricardo Reis, in the theme written by Isabel RatoSegue o teu destino“.

There were several good themes that the public had the opportunity to hear in yet another great night at SeixalJazz 2020, which this year only counted on national artists, in a difficult year for the culture where initiatives like SeixalJazz are to be praised and very important.

Themes such as “Linho Mourisco” based on a traditional Portuguese theme, here adapted to jazz, “Terra sem ar“, by Luís Barrigas, created following the tragedy of the fires of Pedrógão or “O mar” by João Rato were also themes performed by the Isabel Rato Quinteto, on a trip that took us through his albums “Beyond the Curve of the Road” 2016 and “Histories of Heaven and Earth” of 2019 considered by the magazine «» as one of the best records of jazz of the year 2019.
