Ítalo Ferreira wins Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal for the first time

Brazilian surfer Ítalo Ferreira won today for the first time the Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal, 10th and penultimate stage of the main circuit, after triumphing in the final against Frenchman Joan Duru.

After eliminating compatriot and ranking leader Gabriel Medina in the semi-finals, the current quarter-finals of the circuit gave no chance to the Frenchman, scoring 15.93 points (7.43 and 8.5), enough to overcome the 10.77 (7 and 3.77) of Duro, who started the race in 23rd place in the circuit.

This was the third win of Ítalo Ferreira’s career after the achievements this year at Rip Curl Bells Beach in Australia and Corona Bali Protected in Indonesia.

The Brazilian had the best result at the beach of Supertubos in Peniche, the second place reached in 2015 when he was defeated in the final by compatriot Filipe Toledo.
