Italy beat Spain on the penalties and is in the final
Italy beat Spain on penalties (1-1, 4-2 gp) in the semi-finals of the 2020 European Championship. The Italians return to a decisive game nine years after having lost the final of Euro-2012 against Spain (0-4).
Chiesa (60’) put the transalpines ahead after a beautiful goal, but Álvaro Morata (80’) re-established the equality and sent the game to extra time. With the equality persisting, it was necessary to resort to penalties, where the Juventus striker became the villain.
After Locatelli and Dani Olmo had wasted the first penalties for each of the teams, Belotti, Gerard Moreno, Bonucci, Thiago Alcântara and Bernardschi were converting the kicks. Until Morata allowed Donnarumma’s defense and saw Jorginho score the decisive penalty.
Italy is now waiting for the winner of the match between Denmark and England. The final, remember, is scheduled for this Sunday at Wembley.
