Ivan Domingues qualified today in 21st place on the starting grid – and as the fastest driver for the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) team – for the two races of the Belgian Formula 3 Grand Prix, which will be held this weekend at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
The qualifying session took place late in the afternoon, following a change in the race schedule due to morning fog. Ivan Domingues and his teammates managed to stand out in the second half of the session, using their second set of tires, but in the end, unlike most teams, they were unable to demonstrate the same improvement as their competitors.
“I was in the top ten, four tenths of a second off the pace, but on the final run, we couldn’t get the most out of the third set of tires, unlike most of the teams. I finished 21st, with the fastest time of the three VAR cars. However, we face another Saturday and Sunday with two more races, where we’ll give our all for the best performance on the track. It won’t be easy, but I want to make the most of this fantastic circuit,” said Ivan Domingues.

About Ivan Domingues
Ivan Domingues (Leiria, May 5, 2006) started karting, inspired by his father and brother, when he was just 8 years old. At age 9, he participated in the first Portuguese championship. He won the Brazilian Karting Cup and was National Vice-Champion in 2017, 2018, and 2019. At the age of 14, he moved to Italy to further his training and make the leap to Formula 4. Last season, in 2024, in FRECA (Formula Regional Europe by Alpine), he stood out as one of the best rookies (two podium finishes and best rookie in three races). In 2025, he made the jump to the FIA Formula 3 Championship, one of the main precursors to Formula 1, becoming the first Portuguese driver to compete in the World Championship, complete the full season, and win a victory (the Spanish Grand Prix), all while playing for the prestigious Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR).
