Ivan Domingues was forced to retire from the Sprint Race of the Monaco Formula 3 Grand Prix this Saturday.
The young Portuguese driver, who advanced to the race with his best classification of the year, 17th, was involved in an incident on the first lap, when he was covered by the single-seater of his teammate, Santiago Ramos. The rookie from Leiria now has a new opportunity to reverse his misfortune on his debut in the Principality, in the second race of the program, the Feature Race, which takes place this Sunday.
The first race of the weekend hinted at an uphill battle, and that was what happened from the first lap, when there were five retirements. The first difficulties arose on the formation lap of the starting grid, when the engine of Ivan Domingues’ Dallara broke down. The driver still managed to start the race from the pits, but when he was trying to overtake for the first time, he ended up involved in the incident that forced him to retire.
“It’s Monaco… Here, especially with 30 cars on the track, even the formation lap can cause problems. Then, that collision in front of me ended up jeopardising the race, but I’m back here on Sunday to give my best and make the most of my debut on this circuit,” said Ivan Domingues.
Monaco Formula 3 Grand Prix Schedule:
