Portuguese driver Ivan Domingues returns to the track this weekend to compete in the Hungarian Grand Prix, the ninth and penultimate round of the FIA Formula 3 World Championship. The Hungaroring, on the outskirts of Budapest, is known for its slow, technical corners, where overtaking is a challenge and precision is crucial.
Finishing his debut season in Formula 3, Ivan Domingues is taking on the challenge. “We want to make the most of the challenge of racing at the Hungaroring, a very technical and demanding circuit, where every detail counts and where the asphalt is especially hard on the tires. We’ve faced some challenges with the car setup, which has influenced our approach to qualifying, but we’ve been working throughout the week to rise to the occasion and perform at our best. Overtaking isn’t easy at this circuit, so securing a good grid position is crucial to achieving a good result. Rain is forecast for the weekend, which could change things or even play in our favour, as long as we qualify well and are prepared to react to the constantly changing conditions.”
Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix in Formula 3 starts tomorrow at 2 p.m. (Lisbon time). Ivan Domingues, 19, is the only Portuguese on the Formula 3 grid and has already won one race this season, in the sprint race of the Spanish Grand Prix. He has 18 points and is 19th in a competitive championship that, in the 16 races of the 8 Grands Prix, has already contested, features 11 different winners.

About Ivan Domingues
Ivan Domingues (Leiria, May 5, 2006) started karting, inspired by his father and brother, when he was just 8 years old. At age 9, he participated in Portugal’s first championship. He won the Brazilian Karting Cup and was National Runner-up in 2017, 2018, and 2019. At age 14, he moved to Italy to further his professional training and make the leap to Formula 4. Last season, in 2024, already in FRECA (Formula Regional Europe by Alpine) stood out as one of the best rookies (two podiums and best rookie in three races). In 2025, he made the jump to the FIA Formula 3 Championship, one of the main precursors to Formula 1, becoming the first Portuguese driver to compete in the World Championship, complete a full season, and win a victory (the Spanish Grand Prix), all while racing for the prestigious Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR). His role models include Ayrton Senna and Max Verstappen. Besides cars, he is passionate about sports and animals.
