The Brazilian Ivan Lins and the Glenn Miller Orchestra are the first two names announced for the Festival ‘Music in Leiria’, which Orfeão de Leiria performs between March 23 and April 25, 2019, in ten municipalities of that district.

The 37th will be the largest ever edition and the organization announced today the first two names of the poster: at a pre-release concert of the festival, Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at ‘Music in Leiria’ on March 15 next year, while Ivan Lins will close the festival.

The Brazilian pianist, singer and composer will be invited by Ana Laíns, and both will be accompanied, on April 25, 2019, by the Filarmonia Orchestra of Beiras and by the Orfeão de Leiria Choir at the José Lúcio da Silva Theater.

The next edition of the festival will feature concerts of classical music and jazz, in a bet of “great responsibility”, stresses the president of Orfeão de Leiria.

“The Music Festival in Leiria is the oldest in the country to be held in an uninterrupted fashion, which alone is already a great responsibility. We are committed to continue a legacy of excellence,” says Acácio de Sousa.

Looking to maintain “a high level of artistic quality”, the organization bets on reaching further. In addition to Leiria, the festival extends to Marinha Grande, Batalha, Porto de Mós, Pombal, Ansião, Alvaiázere, Castanheira de Pêra, Figueiró dos Vinhos and Pedrógão Grande.

“It is one of the great innovations. It is clearly an event of regional scope that, in the future, can extend even more”, promises.

In keeping with the artistic director of the festival, António Vassalo Lourenço promises to “promote culture among new audiences” through a program that also has “new talents”, “a visible artistic multiplicity” and “a strong international component “.
