Ivo Canelas returns to the stage with “All the Wonderful Things”

by Duncan Macmillan

  • JANUARY 3 TO 29, TIME OUT STUDIO, LISBON
  • FEBRUARY 4 AND 5, SÃO FRANCISCO CONVENT, COIMBRA

The monologue performed by Ivo Canelas and produced by H2N, returns to Estúdio Time Out in Lisbon from the 3rd to the 29th of January and to the Convento São Francisco in Coimbra on the 4th and 5th of February, after three sold-out seasons with more than 15,000 spectators.

A show in which Ivo Canelas, one of the most charismatic actors of his generation in Portugal, invites the public to participate and remember the importance of recognizing and being dazzled by the things that surround us, touching, in an exciting way, themes such as depression, suicide, family and love. In this piece, which takes on an immersive character, a child writes, as he grows up, a list of reasons to live, with the aim of trying to help his mother recover from depression.

“It’s an incredible experience to be able to play this character and this story that immediately captured my attention. They are very intense sessions, in which I did my best, but in which I also received and witnessed enormous generosity and empathy from the audience”, says Ivo Canelas.I am looking forward to being able to do this show again and now without the obligation to wear a mask! That alone is a wonderful thing to add to the list.

The monologue was written by Duncan Macmillan, premiered with great success at the Fringe Festival, and was performed in several countries. In Portugal, Ivo Canelas was distinguished with the Solo Show Award by Guia dos Teatros 2020 and All Things Wonderful was included in the list of the 30 Best Shows of 2019 by Comunidade Cultura e Arte.

Mental Health is a topic that has recently been brought up for discussion and public debate, as a way to raise awareness of its importance, alert to the necessary care for its maintenance, identify symptoms of mental disorders, and various ways of asking for help. . This is why this piece has never been as relevant as it is today.

The revenue raised on the opening day, January 3rd, reverts to the Associação SOS Voz Amiga, an emotional support line that is available to help all those who are in situations of suffering caused by loneliness, anxiety, depression or risk of suicide; and the proceeds raised on the following day, January 4th, revert to Mansarda, a Private Institution of Social Solidarity that supports artists with a social, cultural and civic character.

“A hymn to the simplicity of being happy. A hymn to love. A hymn to the harsh reality that is living. Thank you, Ivo Canelas, this piece was one of the wonderful things I can add to my list.”
