J Balvin sings about gratitude and evolution in new single “Rio”

Theme is now available on all digital platforms

J Balvin has always been willing to revisit his experiences and invite listeners on an intimate journey that only he can express. Her first single of the year, “Rio,” is one of her most intimate and vulnerable creations to date.

Without fear of revisiting the past and with full knowledge of his truth, the singer talks about the intimate process of personal and spiritual healing that led him to find the priorities in his life. Interweaving a catchy reggaeton beat with a hypnotic, seductive bass, Balvin makes a statement of intent from the start: “Hoy le doy las gracias al cielo / por las veces que me equivoque.” The song represents a new appreciation for life and gratitude for those who have supported him along the way.

Produced by Mazzari and ODDLIQUOR, “Rio” captures the artist’s maturity and lyrical evolution, giving it a nuance that distances itself from typical reggaeton themes. Balvin bets on personal evolution with a chorus that promises to resonate with everyone, “So I can look for it on the street / What’s abundant in my house”.

The single arrives alongside an official video, which offers a rare glimpse into Balvin’s private life, compiling footage recorded by the artist himself over the past few years.

“Rio” comes after Balvin was nominated for the prestigious Lo Nuestro Awards, where he is competing in two categories: Collaboration of the Year – Urban Music for “Polvo de tu Vida” alongside Chencho Corleone and Album of the Year – Urban Music for “Rayo”.

The 2025 Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony will be held at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Thursday, February 20.
