J. Bernardt opens Os Suspeitos concert series
Attic Hall of the Porto Ageas Coliseu
The Coliseu joins Os Suspeitos by Mr November, a cooperative dedicated to shaking up the indie music scene in Rio, to bring alternative national and international bands to Salão Ático. J. Bernardt, the solo project of the lead singer of the Belgian band Balthazar, is the first of several shows to take place in 2025, in the “Os Suspeitos no Ático” cycle.
The objective is to share with the public “the shows we want to see, stimulating musical projects of independent music, without obeying a commercial logic”, explains the collective.
And the Salão Ático is a space that provides unique moments and a singular and intimate experience between artists and the public. An integral part of the historic Coliseu building, the Attic Room was renovated in 2022 and has a capacity for 300 people standing or up to 200 people in a seated audience.
Suspeitos by Mr November is a non-profit organization like the Friends of the Coliseu do Porto Association. The collective was formed in 2018 and has already performed more than 50 shows in Porto, such as Warhaus, Slow Show, Nation of Language, W H Lung and Balthazar themselves, many of which are making their national debut, as is the case with J. Bernardt.
“We are certain that this programming partnership will allow the public of the Region and all those who visit it to discover not only quality national and international musical projects, with a very interesting programmatic curation, but also a concert hall capable of providing intimate concerts in one of the most iconic cultural spaces in the country”, explains Miguel Guedes, President of the Coliseu. “The ‘The Suspects in the Attic’ cycle will allow audiences to rejuvenate at the Coliseum, embracing more alternative and contemporary areas.”
“It is with great pride and commitment that we embrace the partnership with Coliseu Porto Ageas to continue providing the city of Porto with the possibility of programming, always with the boldness and audacity to choose what is not obvious, but which we believe has a seal of quality that justifies seeing and hearing live”, says Dinis Carvalho, from Os Suspeitos.
J. Bernardt performs on April 6 | More names announced next week
Jinte Deprez is perhaps best known for, along with Maarten Devoldere, being the creative duo and lead singers of the group Balthazar. At the same time, and just like his Balthazar stage colleague, Jinte Deprez has a personal project, called J. Bernardt, with a debut album “Running Days” (2017), in which he mixes R&B and soul sounds, with an electronic layer.
In Porto, he will present his second and most recent album, Contigo (2024), wrapped in a dramatic tone and full of exuberant melodies, where he explores all the phases of a love breakup, in an album that is still desperately romantic.
The usual sound and voice of Balthazar, now in a solo career, in a national premiere on April 6th, at 7 pm, at the Salão Ático of the Coliseu Porto Ageas.
Tickets for the J. Bernardt show cost €24 and have just gone on sale at the Coliseu, Ticketline and the usual outlets. For those who miss personalized physical tickets, all shows in the Os Suspeitos no Ático cycle also have physical tickets available for sale, through the Instagram page @mrnsuspeitos.
