BTS’ j-hope has just released his new solo album, HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1. The 6-track album is inspired by a celebration of new beginnings while also recalling j-hope’s roots, as the musician was a street dancer before joining BTS. The album was released together with “HOPE ON THE STREET”, a documentary series that records j-hope’s journey as a dancer.
The album makes a sonic reference to old-school hip hop from the 2000s and the single “NEURON” features the participation of respected K-Hip Hop artists yoonmirae and GAEKO. Other artists featured on the album include BTS’s Jung Kook, Benny Blanco, Nile Rodgers, among others.
Known as the “main dancer” of the group, j-hope flaunts his near-perfect performance skills. His originality also comes from the fact that he learned music through dancing. j-hope has participated in the creation of songs such as “Intro: Boy Meets Evil” and “MAMA” from BTS’s album WINGS, and in his solo work.
J-hope’s first mixtape, Hope World (2018), is an expression of his sincere emotions and personal narratives, hinting at his vision as an artist. The famous single “Chicken Noodle Soup (feat. Becky G)”, released in 2019, showed his musical personality with electrifying energy. j-hope also asserted his talent as a creative director by leading all aspects – from the music to the concept and visuals – of his solo album, Jack In The Box (2022), which addresses the passion and agony he feels as an artist. In 2022, j-hope made history by becoming the first South Korean artist to headline a main stage at Lollapalooza festival.
